Ollie's story is just another example of the neglect that animals suffer at the hands of humans daily.
He came to us a few months ago as a younger pup. He was born with deformed front legs which severely hinders his ability to walk. His previous owners decided to dump him at a local kill shelter rather than getting him the medical help he desperately needed. He immediately made it onto the euthanasia list due to his medical conditions. We quickly stepped up to save him!
He has been in foster care with us for about 2 months now & is thriving! Words can't really express how awesome this guy is. He continues to amaze us more daily with his sweet personality & endless kisses. Although he has a severe handicap, he doesn't know it. He still gets around pretty well, loves to romp with his foster siblings & snuggles endlessly with his foster momma. He is treated as normally as possible in hopes of him continuing to thrive. He really wants nothing more than a human to love!
He has been to several veterinarians over the past few months in regards to his legs. After many x-rays & medical opinions, we were sent to an angular bone surgeon in the Dallas TX region. After a thorough exam, the surgeon gave us a little hope! He came up with a mild game plan for the time being in hopes of saving Ollie's legs.
Ollie is currently 7 months old, which means the growth plates in his front legs are not closed yet. He is still a growing puppy so we do not want to disturb that growth. We are currently waiting for him to turn 10 months old so the growth plates can close completely & correctly. At that time, we will begin to discuss all the surgery options for our lil guy. We are tentatively looking at 2 surgeries per leg in hopes of reshaping the bones a bit & making his ability to stand/walk more feasible for him. These surgeries are not a guarantee to fix his issues, simply a hope to make him more comfortable.
These surgeries will not be cheap! The rough estimate at this point is $2000 per surgery, totaling roughly $8000 in the end. That is a HUGE amount of money for a small rescue like us. We are currently working on a few fundraisers to assist with these costs. We know that this guy deserves a chance at real life & we hope to give it to him!

4/25/17: OLLIE UPDATE
Ollie went into the vet for his neuter appointment today. He was not a very happy camper but it must be done. He also got his 6 week x-rays taken of his front legs so the surgeon can evaluate how his growth is coming along.
He is quite mobile on his front legs now. The left leg is looking must straighter & stronger than before. His right leg is still very bowed & his uses his foot at the wrong angle. We are becoming more hopeful that his left leg will be savable!
DONATIONS STILL NEEDED! HE REQUIRES X-RAYS EVERY 6 WEEKS, WHICH ADDS UP QUICKLY!
